295/75R22.5 vs 11R22.5: Which Size Is Right for Your Truck?
These are the two most popular commercial truck tire sizes in North America — and fleet managers ask us about the difference constantly. Here's what you need to know.
Are They Interchangeable?
Not quite. While both sizes fit standard 22.5-inch rims and are used on class 8 trucks, there are real differences in diameter, load capacity, and fitment.
- 295/75R22.5 — metric sizing, slightly wider, often preferred for line-haul. Diameter: ~41.3 inches.
- 11R22.5 — traditional sizing, slightly narrower, common in fleets that haven't fully switched to metric. Diameter: ~41.5 inches.
Load Capacity
Both sizes are available in load range G and H. At load range H, the 295/75R22.5 typically carries 6,610 lbs per tire. The 11R22.5 at H range carries about 6,175 lbs. For heavy loads, the 295/75 has the edge.
Which Should You Buy?
If you're starting fresh or have flexibility in your spec: go with 295/75R22.5. It's the direction the industry is moving. If your fleet is already on 11R22.5 and you want to standardize parts, stick with 11R — mixing sizes on the same axle is not recommended.
